On Monday we talked about Lamarck's theories of evolution. They are the theories of use and disuse, and acquired characteristics. Mr. Finley was explaining situations of both situations that would demonstrated those situations. For example if he dyed his hair blond and he married a person who had blond hair the children would have blond hair. Our homework was to create an experiment to test one of Lamarck's theories.
On Tuesday we discussed how Lamarck's theories of evolution were false during a fire drill caused by a burn cookie. We also shared our experiments. Then we found out the theories were wrong. Lamarck didn't know enough about genetics to understand.
On Wednesday we we reviewed the SIX TYPES OF EVOLUTION. They were;
- Mutation (DNA mutation)
- Natural Selection (best suits environment)
- Gene Flow (through migration, 1 group of people plus another group of different people)
- Genetic Drift (a random occurrence i.e. natural disaster and humans)
- Genetic Engineering (Humans play with the dna)
- Selective Breeding (humans control what breed)
On thursday my half of the class watched a simulation on hominids called becoming human. It was really interesting. I learned all about our ancestors.
On Friday we had a quiz on evolution.
