Genetic Variety

Genetic Variety was huge in this project. Without it our bugs would be the same. When we traced a color in class and we saw how many people had it. It was amazing. My color (pink with red dots) so many people had. There was one case were one person mated with someone else in the class and four people had that trait. After those four people would go through one generation about 1/3 of the class would have it. It is amazing how fast something could spread. If that red trait were a disease and were dominant it would be a really bad thing. I did the math and if it were to go to more generations the whole class would most likely have the red trait.
Genetic variety is what makes the bugs unique. Genetic variety means that all of our bugs will be different. Some of the bugs looked the same, why is that? That is because the genotypes are different not the phenotypes. If you think of any possible way for two bugs to unrelated bugs to be different. If the bugs are identical twins and both bugs mate with another pair of identical twins then they could be the same. It is highly unlikely because of the chance. In one bug the child may get long legs (Ll) one from the mother (l) and one from the father (L). The other one could have short legs (ll) on from the mother (l) and one from the father (l). Both of the bugs parents would be the same but the bugs wouldn't. That is genetic variety for you.
